Media and opera house work

I enjoy sharing the findings of my research with a wider public and am particularly committed to encouraging new audiences to discover opera.

I have presented many broadcasts for BBC Radio 3, including ‘Opera on 3’, Proms concerts, ‘Building a Library’, and the Breakfast Show. I have also been interviewed about opera on Radio 3 and Radio 4 (including on The Today Programme), on the World Service, and for television on BBC4.

Over the last decade I have worked extensively with the Royal Opera House, writing historical and contextual programme essays for their productions of operas by Puccini, Verdi, Gounod, Cilea, Giordano and Ponchielli. I have also written programme essays for Wexford Festival Opera, the Gran Teatre de Liceu, Barcelona, the Bilbao Opera Company, and for opera performances in Greece, Cyprus and the Far East.

I have given pre-performance talks for the BBC Proms, the Royal Opera House, English National Opera and Glyndebourne Touring Opera, and contributed to a Glyndebourne podcast about La bohème.

I have also written for Opera magazine and The Guardian online.

If you are interested in commissioning me for programme essays, pre-performance talks or journalism projects, please contact me (you can find my email address on my staff profile page on the Brookes website).
